Our ground cloves are famous for their use in multiple cuisines, ranging from Asian to Mexican all the way to African, adding mouth-watering flavour to meats, curries, and marinades. They are great to accompany cumin, basil and allspice. They also blend beautifully with cinnamon, vanilla, and red wine, as well as onion, citrus peel, star anise or peppercorns in all your favourite entrees and mains or even desserts.
Cloves' powerful taste is imparted by the chemical Eugenol, which our cloves are rich in.
Originally only grown on a few of the Maluku Islands, Cloves have been a valued commodity for centuries with uses not only in the culinary world but also medical too- their essential oil has been widely used in dentistry, and, in Chinese medicine cloves are notable in their ability to warm the middle and direct stomach qi downward and to fortify the kidney yang.
The buds on our cloves also have anti-oxidant properties and can be used as to make a fragrant pomander when combined with an orange!
